This feature length documentary takes an in-depth look at Shaw’s life and legacy as of one the world’s most beloved classical music icons, from his serendipitous introduction into the world of music, through the many challenges and remarkable successes in his 60-year career. The essence of the film is an exploration of Shaw’s unique gift for crafting and conducting exceptional choral music. Interviews with collaborators, students, choristers, music critics and friends along with Shaw’s biographer Keith Burris provide insights into Shaw’s complex character and distinctive approach to music making.

With a very special introduction by Dr. Nathan Zullinger and performance by Chancel Choir of Highland Presbyterian.

The Chancel Choir of Highland Presbyterian Church has a long history of excellence in sacred music. Composed of over 40 members from many walks of life, the ensemble sings weekly for worship and for special services throughout the year. The choir often collaborates with professional musicians, including members of the Winston-Salem Symphony.

Dr. Nate Zullinger, Director of Music, began serving at Highland in October 2012. Nate receives great joy from working with Highland’s ensembles, planning worship, and sharing his gifts on organ and piano. He graduated from Messiah College with a degree in music education and from Boston University with a doctorate in choral conducting. Nate also conducts the Cantata Singers and teaches choral conducting at the UNC School of the Arts.

If you cannot make the 7pm screening, we have added an additional matinee (film screening only) at 2pm – please click here for tickets
