At a/perture cinema, we love updating our street side movie poster frames. Each week, we think about where we’ll highlight our new opening films and showcase what’s coming soon. After we closed in early March, our frames were empty and we were missing our posters. After a while, we decided to put them to good use, collaborating with local artists to showcase their work, spread some joy, and have some fun.

Essential Worker Series

Four local artists are helping us celebrate and thank essential workers of all kinds in the community by providing art for our street side poster frames. In doing so, they remind us that art is essential too.

About the artists:

Abigail Fernandez is an artist specializing in greeting cards. Follow her shop Whatever is Lovely Designs.

Beth Glover is a North-Carolina-based professional artist and surface designer specializing in abstract expressionism using watercolor and mixed media. Visit her online at Beth Glover Creates.

Riley Meehan is a super talented and artistic 9th grader at The Montessori School of Winston-Salem.

Taylor Hayes is an MFA and showcased her A[void] is Built at the a/perture ga//ery in Fall 2019. Visit her online at Taylor Hayes Art.

Mask the City Series

While we couldn’t host our usual summer movie poster sale, we decided to dig through our vault of past movie posters for this fun collaboration with Mask the City. This series was recently featured in Americans for the Arts Community + Arts Mosaic.

City of Arts & Innovation Series

To kick off our poster art series, we worked with SECCA and some of our favorite Winston-Salem artists to celebrate the City of Arts & Innovation!
