Since the early days of cinema, women have often been looked at as symbols rather than complex characters. Female characters have existed to serve the development of the main character, typically a male lens (and gaze) and often with one-dimensional characters.
But there is one genre where women are usually front and center….The horror genre delves into questions of gender and sexuality more than any other. Maybe watching women-led movies that deal with these subjects is why women like horror so much.
