a/perture cinema is a community institution and is dedicated to presenting the art of film in an open and welcoming environment. If you have a passion for film, people, and providing meaningful theatrical experiences, then a/perture is the place for you. We are currently hiring for the following roles:
Executive Director
Overview: The Executive Director (ED) leads and manages a/perture cinema, a nonprofit committed to showcasing thought-provoking films that celebrate diversity and foster community. The ED is responsible for operational, financial, and strategic leadership, ensuring the cinema’s growth and community impact.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Vision:
- Collaborate with the Board to set strategic direction and guide organizational growth.
- Serve as a community spokesperson to elevate a/perture’s profile.
- Empower staff, ensuring a positive work environment.
Financial Management:
- Oversee budgeting, financial reporting, and bookkeeping.
- Ensure financial sustainability through sound management and audits.
- Develop and execute revenue-generating initiatives.
Operations:
- Manage day-to-day operations, including facilities, compliance, and staffing.
- Ensure exceptional customer service and effective communication across all platforms.
- Supervise staff recruitment, training, and development.
Marketing & Fundraising:
- Implement innovative marketing strategies to boost attendance and revenue.
- Lead fundraising efforts, including donor relations, membership programs, and special
events. - Research and pursue grants and sponsorship opportunities.
Community Relations:
- Cultivate relationships with community organizations, funders, and other stakeholders.
- Maintain a strong presence in the Winston-Salem arts and culture community.
Facilities Management:
- Ensure theater facilities and technology are well-maintained.
- Manage vendor relationships for maintenance and upgrades.
Qualifications:
- Mature and professional attitude, donor/client focus and the ability to manage and direct
multiple tasks simultaneously. - Knowledge of fundraising and special events management.
- Demonstrated ability to generate private philanthropic support and bringing closure to gifts.
- Ability to successfully function within a collaborative team environment (staff, Board,
volunteers, donors), while being a strong, inspiring leader. - Knowledge of financial and budget management.
- An understanding and knowledge of Winston-Salem and the surrounding community served by
a/perture cinema is preferred.

Box Office Staff Positions
We currently do not have openings for General Staff positions. Please check back regularly to see when we may have any openings.
General Staff – responsible for all sales and supporting functions in the concession area, and they help ensure every screening follows the highest standard. Part-time, starting at $15.00 per hour. Weekends, weeknight and holiday availability required.
