This February, we celebrate two icons of film who’s works spanned decades and genres, but were perhaps most well known for their iconic romance films.
Diane Keaton (1946-2025), won her first Academy Award on her first nomination for Annie Hall (1977), becoming an icon of style and bankable star who would lead films for decades after that breakthrough. Her role in one third of the epic romantic triangle of Reds (1981), starring alongside director Warren Beatty and Jack Nicholson would lead to her 2nd Oscar Nomination. An important figure in the New Hollywood movement to her heart-warming collaborations with Nancy Meyers, Keaton lit up the screen with every performance and will be remembered forever for her effervescence and complex characters.
Director and actor Rob Reiner (1947-2025) got his start on the sitcom All in the Family, and was destined for comedic greatness in being raised by Carl Reiner, who fostered a love of performing and comedy in their home. Reiner is credited with being a pioneer in the mockumentary format with his debut, This is Spinal Tap (1984), and was a genre journeyman from then on out. From horror with Misery (1990), to coming-of-age with Stand By Me (1986), and romantic comedies with When Harry Met Sally (1989), you’d be hard pressed to find a genre that Reiner didn’t help define during his unprecedented run as a director in the 80’s.
With The Princess Bride (1987), Reiner gave the world a fairy-tale romance for the ages, filled with some of the most quotable lines and the perfect annual Valentine’s Day watch, come celebrate Reiner’s legacy on screen and an all-timer date night film.
This January, we celebrated Robert Redford, the actor, producer, director and independent film champion. From 70’s icon, starring in films like All the President’s Men, Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid, and Three Days of the Condor, to winning Best Picture with his directorial debut, Ordinary People, Redford is an indelible figure in the history of film.
