- Mon, Jun 22
Run Time: 420 min.
An introduction to the art of cinema for High Schoolers!
Rising Grades 10-12
Over five days, campers will take an in-depth look at each aspect of the filmmaking process through film screenings and discussions. We will focus on a specific artist each day, a master in their field who’s work spans decades and genres, and have acted as influences on thousands of filmmakers since. With a curriculum designed by a/perture’s curator and programming director, Jake Laystrom, each film will be preceded by an introduction and followed by a group discussion, specifically highlighting each day’s focus and each artist’s styles and signatures. Build a solid foundation in film education for your budding cinephiles!
Day 1: Screenwriting
Day 2: Cinematography
Day 3: Directing
Day 4: Editing
Day 5: Performance
By exploring film history and film theory through individual disciplines in the filmmaking process, campers will gain a better understanding of the images they consume, and why certain choices were made to bring these stories to life. With a strong foundation here, campers will have a head start in their future careers as filmmakers, critics, programmers, and most importantly, movie lovers.
Sample films that may be viewed include (final schedule is TBD):
- The Big Lebowski
- Days of Heaven
