Join the culinary experts of Winston-Salem and the film experts at a/perture for an evening exploring the best of both worlds together.

With a “Dinner and a/movie” ticket, you join us for a curated multi-course meal at a locally owned restaurant; a movie at a/perture to enjoy with your dessert; and a talk by the chef discussing their inspirations.

We are also curating “Cocktail + a/movie,” “Dessert and a/movie” and more! Keep checking back for new dates in this recurring series.

February:

Magnolia House + a/movie, Friday Feb. 27

Film TBD. Enjoy a “Shoebox meal” and Q&A with Magnolia House Greensboro. In its mid-century heyday, Magnolia House bed and breakfast was included in “The Negro Motorist Green Book” as a business friendly to traveling African Americans, and remains one of just four Green Book sites in North Carolina still in operation. (The Green Book was featured in the Best Picture Winner from 2019, featuring Acting winner Mahershala Ali). Magnolia House has hosted legendary guests including Tina Turner; James Brown; Ray Charles; and James Baldwin. From the 1930s through 1960s, many families packed meals in shoeboxes to travel, and Magnolia House has adopted this tradition with catered boxed meals featuring fried chicken, sandwiches, or vegetarian/vegan options. Your ticket will bring you admission to a/perture for a special film screening; a shoebox meal with your designated menu choice; and a chance to hear from the Magnolia House owner/operator, Natalie Pass-Miller, about its unique role in the history of our Triad and state. March:

Beer + Basketball at a/perture

Join us at a/perture for two brand NEW traditions: Draft beer and NCAA Basketball March Madness! Tentatively on the evening of Friday March 20 (pending the bracket announcement the prior week, which may cause us to modify timing), join us to sample from local breweries, enjoy a/perture concessions, and watch a FREE viewing of a March Madness game in one of our largest theaters. Check back beginning March 16 for game and timing details!

April 3:

On Holiday and “La Piscine (The Swimming Pool)”

Enjoy a sparkling wine from local brand On Holiday, paired with apertifs and a screening of Jacques Deray’s 1969 film La Piscine, starring Alain Delon, Romy Schneider, and Jane Birkin. Come to a/perture at 6pm and meet the lovely team behind On Holiday, McCabe and Kiernan, and pick one of their delicious wines as they introduce the steamy art-house favorite to kick off the warm weather!
