fastballs / fast cars

At a/perture, summer means many things, but this summer it means highlighting two classic genres, baseball films and movies with fast cars!
Something about baseball works so well in tandem with the art of filmmaking, which often struggles to capture the full range of emotion of other sports. The slower pace, the strategy and passion, all lead to some perennial favorites you can watch annually (in air conditioning!) during the dog days of Summer. Enjoy some favorites, from the statistic and measured pleasure of Moneyball to the romanticism of local favorites Bull Durham and A League of Their Own.
Meanwhile, summer also means blockbusters with fast cars and action heroes. In our opinion, Hollywood movies were more enjoyable when relying on the creativity and authenticity of practical effects, before ‘fix it in post’ became a mission statement. The early 90’s pleasure of watching Steve McQueen, Tom Cruise and Keanu Reeves go fast never subsides in our minds.
