Frankenstein (1931)

Opens on October 3

Director: James Whale Run Time: 70 min. Release Year: 1931

Starring: Boris Karloff, Colin Clive, Edward Van Sloan, John Boles, Mae Clarke

This pre-code horror classic launched Boris Karloff’s career, becoming one of the most influential horror films of all time. Controversial on its release, states including Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and New York cut part of a scene, and Universal made cuts to the negative for the film’s post-code re-issue, causing those scenes to be lost forever.

The film was fully banned in Northern Ireland, Quebec, Sweden, Italy, and Czechoslovakia.

Henry Frankenstein pieces together body parts in the hope of bringing a human-like creature to life. The mad scientist’s dreams are shattered by his monstrous creation awakening with rage to a world that hates and fears him.

Screening 10/3 + 10/4
