The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)
Director: Tobe Hooper Run Time: 83 min. Release Year: 1974
Starring: Allen Danziger, Marilyn Burns, Paul A. Partain, Teri McMinn, William Vail
Amusingly, this film was banned in the UK due to a strict rule that did not allow films with the word ‘chainsaw’ in the title to be screened. Director Tobe Hooper made a point to avoid gore, in hopes of the film earning a PG rating. That did not work either.
Banned in several countries, including Brazil, Chile, Finland, France, Iceland, Ireland, Norway, Singapore, Sweden and West Germany. The film played for the first time in Poland in 2025, and theaters in Canada were threatened with morality charges if they continued to show the film during its original release.
Five friends head out to rural Texas to visit the grave of a grandfather. On the way, they stumble across what appears to be a deserted house, only to discover something sinister within. Something armed with a chainsaw.
Screening 10/30 + 10/31
