Top baseball pitcher Bingo Long is fed up with how his Negro League team owner treats him, so he forms his own lineup, recruiting big-hitting Leon Carter and Charlie Snow, who dreams of playing in the majors. Boycotted by black teams, Long’s outfit play minor league white teams, earning more attention as entertainers than as players. However, their success wins them a chance to play again in the Negro League, this time as equals.
Steve “Nub” Anderson is an original legendary player for the Indianapolis Clowns, the historic Negro Leagues baseball team famous for combining elite athleticism with comedy and showmanship. Steve played with the team through the 1960s and 1970s and is particularly celebrated for competing professionally as a one-armed player. The Indianapolis Clowns originally served as the “original baseball circus,” mixing competitive baseball with Harlem Globetrotters-style entertainment.
N.C. Author Frank Tursi, who recently published “Tar Heel Boys of Summer: NC’s Major League Ballplayers,” will reschedule his visit to a/perture – stay tuned for more details
